If you really do not have time to sleep at night and forced to deprive yourself from sleep, you should try to catch some sleep whenever possible. There are experts who say to avoid daytime naps to prevent the disruption of your sleep cycle, however, if you really are sleep deprived, catching up with your much needed sleep may be the only answer. A lot of people find daytime naps to be very effective in increasing their energy and alertness for better productivity during the day.

If you are at work or in school and do not have any time or place to take a “power nap” (nap for 20 minutes), then you can drink caffeinated beverages, such as coffee, tea, energy drink, or soda. Caffeine is a stimulant that can boost your energy. However, you have to be careful in taking caffeinated beverages, since it can cause difficulties in falling asleep at night, especially when taken after 1 pm. Only drink caffeine in the morning and during times of in dire need.


Stretching and doing jumping jacks or jog in place for a minute or 2 minutes can help in fighting exhaustion and it can make you alert temporarily. If you feel really sleepy or tired sitting at your desk, why not stand and stretch your arms as high as you can, stretch your back, and shake your hands at the side of your hips? Once you are done doing that, you will not feel sleepy anymore. But always keep in mind that this technique in boosting your energy and getting rid of sleepiness will only be temporary.
